I just saw some footage of people trying to evacuate from the New Orleans area and it looked like footage you would expect to see in a war torn area from a third world country. Normally I would expect to see footage of the U.S. military providing relief to that area in a few days.
Unfortunately, the bulk of the U.S. military is involved in a war of choice and can't dedicate massive amounts of resources to the evacuation and clean up effort. It bothers me that the vast majority of U.S. citizens will not learn the lesson provided here by this disaster and see how much our military means to us here. Hopefully, the next time we ponder invading another country our elected officials will consider the security of the Continental U.S.
