If I'm Kerry or Edwards, I say this on Bush's announcement on Gay marriage amendment:
"Today, George W. Bush dropped all pretenses and announced to the nation: "I am a divider"
"To the 2.2 million Americans who have lost their jobs,
"To the families of the thousands of American soldiers killed and wounded in Iraq,
"To the millions of Americans concerned about the fiscal health of our nation and the direction of the economy,
"Today, George W. Bush made it clear that your priorities are not his priorities.
"He has said that because gay people make him feel uncomfortable, something must be done.
"Your job, your livelihood, your security are just going to have to wait.
"My fellow Americans lets be clear about what this is really about. This is about the politics of hate and fear. It is despicable, and must be denounced in the strongest possible terms.
"While I support legal protections for same sex couples, I also believe this issue is a red herring. This is George Bush's naked attempt to divert attention from his failures as Commander in Chief.
"The President's problem today is that, over the past three years, he has proven to the country that his administration is not up to the task - and he is afraid he will be held accountable for his failures.
"Today, I urge all American's not to take the bait. Reject the politics of hate and fear, and stand together with me for a better future."
