In short. Al Franken, as a step towards his potential 2008 Minnesota Senate race, has put together a political action committee called The Midwest Values PAC. And he's raised nearly $170,000, and donated a bunch of the money he's raised to several races, including some in Minnesota.
This tells me two very, very encouraging things for Minnesota:
- Al Franken is a proven moneyraiser, which will be absolutely critical as he fights to unseat incumbent Republican Norm Coleman in 2008.
- Even though Minnesota has an open Senate seat in 2006 that Democrats need to (and are) focusing on keeping, Democrats and Democratic donors are not forgetting the long view, and are already preparing for what is going to be a very, very tough race.
