We all know that Joe Hoeffel's pro-choice, and Pat Toomey is virulently pro-life.
But what about Arlen Specter? On the HoeffelBlog today, Hoeffel campaign manager Celia Fischer breaks it down for PA voters:
--He voted to confirm Justices Rehnquist, Scalia and (most famously) Thomas to the Supreme Court, and has voted in favor of every single one of George W. Bush's judicial nominees, even voting in favor of a lifetime appointment for
William Pryor, an anti-choice judge from Alabama.
--He voted to pass a ban on certain abortion procedures which did not create an exception when doctors determined they were in the best interests of the health of the mother.
--He is presently running radio ads in selected markets attacking Pat Toomey for having once supported research on RU-486, which Specter himself had been known to support.
Arlen Specter has spent time during this Republican primary trying to muddy the issue of abortion, because he and Toomey aren't really that far apart, and he knows it.
Specter earned only a 21% rating from NARAL Pro-Choice America last year. That's a lot closer to Pat Toomey's zero rating than it is to Joe Hoeffel's 100 percent rating.
For those who are rooting for Specter on Tuesday because of his alleged "moderate" status, it's some pretty damning evidence to the contrary.
