Yesterday, as Laura Bush makes a hopeful speech from Layette, Louisiana and her husband hugs the homeless in Biloxi, Mississippi, it is important to remember the fact that the failings of the Federal government are responsible for the loss of many extra lives.
The Republicans are already in damage control mode and the American public are
starting to forget the lack of response. CNN has already changed from an accusatory tone to reports of army vehicles finally arriving. The media will be putting on their happy face for the Bush administration more and more as reporters feel the pressure from their corporate bosses.
Now that large truck convoys are filling a void that should have been filled days ago the Republicans will start appearing on our news channels to spin this disaster in their favor. Even the African American CongressPeople have calmed down. The motto of the Democratic Party should be "Remember Katrina."
Is this America's wake up call or is the average voter going right back to sleep? Will the fact that people have died as a direct result of George W. Bush's lack of action stay up front?
