Veteran leader endorses Knowles:
Ric Davidge, a Vietnam veteran and self-described Reagan conservative who worked as a high-level official in James Watt's Interior Department, said Tuesday that Sen. Lisa Murkowski has consistently voted against veterans and that he had more confidence in Democrat Tony Knowles.
More below...
Davidge, the first vice president of the Vietnam Veterans of America Alaska chapter, said veterans have been betrayed by Republicans, who continue to slash the budget for their programs.
"And I look at the votes of our current U.S. senator and it pisses me off," Davidge said. "We've consistently watched Lisa vote against veterans, and veterans in this state are unhappy about that."
This is definitely a good development for Knowles. According to his campaign, there are over 70,000 veterans in Alaska - a huge number when you consider that just over 600,000 people live in the state, and only about 2/3 of them are registered voters.
One more tidbit: The Anchorage Daily News has a special section of their website devoted to coverage of the Senate race. Here's the link. The coverage tends to lag a few days behind, but it's a useful resource nonetheless.
