The latest news is that Senator Joe Lieberman, perhaps in a move of political desperation, has on this July 4 declared independence from the United States and set himself up as a sovereign state. However, Lieberman is still running for U.S. Senate, despite declaring himself a separate country with tax shelters and other built-in administrative features.
Our Currant reporter asked the Senator if his pending "new nation" status at the U.N. would cause problems in the U.S. Senate primary, and he began gesturing vigorously as he snarled, "You talkin' to me?...you talkin' to ME?" before he departed in a taxi driven by a man with a Mohawk haircut.
BRAKING: late word is that Lieberman may actually declare himself a separate planet like Mars, and one anonymous caller to the Currant claimed that the Senator stowed himself on the space shuttle today, Lieberman mumbling he was doing it "to see if anyone in the Universe will vote for me".
