Have you ever noticed that the most vocal person about politics in the office or at the family reunion is most likely to be a right wingnut?
That's because thyey have no shame, and the have no manners, and they rely on the silence of those who would oppose them. We give them free air time.
I'm a big old homo. Well, not that old: I'll be 39 in April. But friends, I'm here to tell you, there's trouble in River City.
It's time for us to come out. More on the flip.
Those wingnuts first started to get vocal in otherwose polite conversations when Rush took off in popularity. He told them to be loud. Back in the day, polite people avoided talking about politics or religion, and kept things nice and safe with sex talk and dirty jokes. But those days are gone, and we've had our ears filled since then with true obscenity.
We can complain all we want about the SCLM, but the SCLM just reiterates what is going on in the culture. We gay and lesbian people know about this. Only by coming out in our familes and at work have we changed the culture, and refused to be shamed into silence. We took our cues from the Black Pride movement. And now we Kossaks need our own Pride.
But why not just be proud liberals, or proud Democrats? Sure, by all means, go ahead. But the dittoheads, by coming out as dittoheads, pushed the culture to pay more attention to that drug addled fart sack on the radio, and the result was a push of the entire political discourse in this country to the right.
Come out as a Kossack. Give this community some love. Buy a tee shirt, even (no one paid me to say that! I'm not Maggie Gallagher!). We just won the Koufax award and have been getting more SCLM exposure. Let's seize the moment.
The wingnuts can no longer, or should no longer, count on our silence. They will not be persuaded, but they may shut up before spouting off if we are determined to hold them accountable. And the majority of people who do not plug into political news will suddenly become aware that there is another point of view. And they may ask, "what is a Kossack?"
And we may help to take back our culture.
Come out, boys and girls. It's time we stopped being polite.
