RETRACTION: When I searched Google for this, I found nada from America, but when I specifically tried "Fox News Edgar Mitchell" I found it.
So, no media blackout, just a UFO story like any other. Sorry to waste peoples time (I am not a believer in this stuff but I like to read about it sometimes).
Two days ago (July 23rd), a respected NASA astronaut, Dr. Edgar Mitchell, said in an interview in Britain's Kerrang! radio (a rock music station), that "I happen to have been privileged enough to be in on the fact that we've been visited on this planet and the UFO phenomena is real."
He continued: "It's been well covered up by all our governments for the last 60 years or so, but slowly it's leaked out and some of us have been privileged to have been briefed on some of it."
You'd expect tabloids to be interested in this kind of news, and Rupert Murdoch's News Corp. certainly was - the story was printed in Britain's Daily Mail and Austrailia's Daily Telegraph. But given that the astronaut was American, why not print it in the New York Post? Why no mention on Yahoo News' "Odd News" feed?
David Carr of the New York Times seems to finally have noticed what has been obvious for years to any objective news analyst. Fox News has a long-standing scorched Earth policy when reacting to other media who dare to report on Fox News.
In his column titled, "When Fox News Is the Story," Carr confesses that just the thought of having to deal with Fox News as a subject in a story makes him and his peers nervous:
"Once the public relations apparatus at Fox News is engaged, there will be the calls to my editors, keening (and sometimes threatening) e-mail messages, and my requests for interviews will quickly turn into depositions about my intent or who else I am talking to."
The key tactic in Fox's PR strategy is to intimidate reporters and editors, and by Carr's own admission, it's working.

Down in the bowels of Fox News lurks Ambush Central, the sacred room where the real decisions are made. Here the Fox News brain-trusts gather for their regular 5:30 am meeting. Seated at a large oval table are Steve Doocy, Gretchen Carlson, Brian Kilmeade, Fred Barnes, Brit Hume, Mort Kondracke, Mara Liasson, Bill O’Reilly, Alisyn Camerota, Sean Hannity, Alan Colmes, Juan Williams, James P. Pinkerton, Neil Cavuto, Liz Trotta. Hovering over the table are the Ghosts of Joseph McCarthy, Ronald Reagan, George W Bush (brainless), Karl Rove (heartless), Dick Cheney (soulless), Donald Rumsfeld (gutless), and Christmas Past (joyless). At the head of the table sits Roger Ailes.

Lara Logan used to cover Baghdad for CBS News at the peak of the fighting in Iraq, then became the natwork's chief foreign correspondent, and just a few days ago it was announced that she'll be coming to Washington with a new title as chief foreign affairs correspondent. She has clearly been an up-and-coming star on CBS, where she sometimes appears on the flagship show "60 Minutes." She's been described in profiles as resourceful, certainly ambitious and seemingly fearless.
Good evening, Friends of Olbermann! I gotta warn you; I was feeling a little "saucy" prepping for the diary. Hubby must have spiked the hamburgers and green beans we had for dinner because a lot of what was covered on Countdown tonight really got the proverbial juices flowin'!
Please vote in the poll about what color our potential F.O.O. shirts should be. Remember, we need at least 6 people interested to be able to order shirts.
Now then, on to tonight's "saucy" Countdown diary!
The ongoing melodrama featuring MSNBC and Fox News is heating up again and reaffirming Fox's status as the scum suckers of news.
Two weeks ago, Howard Kurtz of the Washington Post gave readers an insiders view of the conflict that centers around the blood feud between Keith Olbermann and Bill O'Reilly. The battle lines have extended all the way up to News Corp. executive offices, including Rupert Murdoch's. In the Kurtz column he quoted Fox chief Roger Ailes threatening his counterpart, Jeff Zucker, at NBC:
"Ailes warned that if Olbermann didn’t stop such attacks against Fox, he would unleash O’Reilly against NBC and would use the New York Post as well."
Them's fightin' words, but that was just the first volley.....
Just heard on Rachel Maddow's radio show, and I couldn't belive it, but I searched nypost.com and it's true.
New York Post GOSSIP columnist Richard Johnson has published Keith Olbermann's RESIDENTIAL address, right down to his apartment number.
I refuse to put up a link to the story, but if you search their site you can find it.
Reprehensible, disgusting, appalling. I don't think there are words enough to condemn this.
Sure, for the intrepid it would likely be easy enough to search public records to find this information, but to publish it in a newspaper?
Am I over-reactng? Given the ongoing rivalry between MSNBC's Olbermann and Murdoch owned Fox "News" Channel's Bill O'Reilly, this smacks of a disgusting breach of journalistic integrity and taking a profesional feud into the personal.

In retaliation for Keith naming Murdoch as "worst person in the world" on Friday's show, the Murdoch-controlled NY Post has actually published Keith's home address in a BS story about him owing a small amount of taxes (which MSNBC confirms was resolved months ago). The post includes his home address in the story "according to public records."
A majority of Republicans are "admittedly" voting for Clinton during the 2008 Democratic Primaries and yet the Democratic Party continues to act like it is a legitimately close race between her and Barack Obama. How many stupid people do you honestly think that there are in the United States of America that are actually buying all this crap? Is it not OBVIOUS that the news media is playing a "shell game" with the people's emotions (and intelligence)? Doesn't this look like a bait-and-switch operation to you? Is it not obvious why Rupert Murdoch, owner of the Fox News Channel and The Wall Street Journal, has finally said ENOUGH OF THIS NONSENSE! and is putting his power behind Barack Obama now?
Wake up America, there is a naked emperor running around out there somewhere...
You might have heard the blurb about how Rupert Murdoch a) influenced the NY Post to endorse Barack Obama and b) predicts a landslide victory for Obama:
The tide is against the Republicans, and Obama could overcome the race issue. McCain, Murdoch said, is a friend, patriot, and decent guy, though he conceded also that he is unpredictable, has spent too much time in Washington, and is not great on the economy (which he said is in a recession) or organizationally adept.
What you might not have heard is that Elizabeth Murdoch held a fundraiser at her home that netted $400K for Obama two weeks ago:
I am beginning to perceive a new spin from the right, that Obama is "clearly favored" to win in November. This would of course would bestow yet another undeserved compliment on John McCain - that he is an underdog for the general election.
CARLSBAD, California (Reuters) - News Corp Chief Executive Rupert Murdoch on Wednesday predicted a Democratic landslide in the U.S. presidential election against a gloomy economic backdrop over the next 18 months.
Murdoch has yet to endorse a U.S. presidential candidate but considers Barack Obama very promising, the media magnate said in an interview by two Wall Street Journal reporters at an annual conference for high-tech industry insiders.
This week's All Things Digital Conference brought Rupert Murdoch to the stage for a surprising interview that included his views on the economy, Barack Obama, and the 2008 election.
Reuters: "News Corp Chief Executive Rupert Murdoch on Wednesday predicted a Democratic landslide in the U.S. presidential election against a gloomy economic backdrop over the next 18 months."
Murdoch has yet to endorse a U.S. presidential candidate but considers Barack Obama very promising, the media magnate said in an interview by two Wall Street Journal reporters at an annual conference for high-tech industry insiders...
"You have probably the making of a complete phenomenon in this country," Murdoch said in describing what he predicted will be a sweeping victory for Democrats in November...
In the 2008 U.S. Presidential race, Murdoch said he is not yet backing anyone, but then quickly added: "I want to meet Obama. I want to know if he going to walk the walk."
I know, it almost sounds like a troll diary (but do check my other entries to see that I'm no troll). But there are two very real questions I'm asking here:
Would Rupert Murdoch, owner of Fox News, ever change his nationality and become Turkish?
Would Rupert Murdoch actually endorse the almost-presumptive Democratic Party nominee for President in the US, Barack Obama, over John McCain?
The answers may surprise you. More, below the fold...
In Carlsbad, CA last night at the "All Things Digital" conference sponsored by the Wall Street Journal. Conservative torch bearer - Rupert Murdoch; Owner of News Corp, The Wall Street Journal, and champion of conservative politics -- said this about Barack Obama:
"He is a rock star. I love what he is saying about education. I think he will win and I am anxious to meet him."
For a moment I thought I needed more coffee, but yes, that is what he said.
So is he optimistic about anything? Yes, he is: He's cautiously intrigued by... Barack Obama. Murdoch, who said that was responsible for the New York Post's endorsement of Obama during the New York primary, said he wasn't ready to endorse Obama or to vote for him. But he's pretty close: "I want to be convinced that Obama is the real thing, that can really carry through. I'm open to that."
