Jill Stein is asking for donations to total roughly $2.5+ million to fund a request for an election audit and recount in the key battleground states of PA, WI and MI.
But time is of the essence since the deadlines in these states for requesting recounts are imminent.
WI — the most imminent deadline is 4 PM CST Friday.
PA — next Monday November 28th.
MI — next Wednesday November 30th.
It is doubtful at this point that it will change anything but I don’t think we can afford to leave this to chance. Here is the reality, Hillary lost by a very small margin and it would only take about 55,000 votes in these 3 states to change the results. Here is the breakdown by state:
MI — still too close to call. Trump currently leads by .2% (9528 votes)
PA — Trump won by 1.17% (67,952 votes)
WI — Trump won by .7% (22525 votes)
The 55000 votes reported earlier came from the Guardian:
But others have spoken publicly, including the sister of Huma Abedin, Clinton’s closest aide. “A shift of just 55,000 Trump votes to Hillary in PA, MI & WI is all that is needed to win,” Heba Abedin said on Facebook, urging people to call the US justice department to request an audit.
I’m not sure why the discrepancy between the 55000 and what I tallied up myself (107105 votes) by looking at the totals of each state but I’ve seen more than a few places mention the 55000 number.
From Mopshell:
Yes it does make sense. Let me explain as simply as I can.
I am going to allocate to Clinton and Trump amounts that are simplified so it is easier to see how this works.
NB: Instead of using state names, I’m using states X, Y and Z to represent Wisconsin, Michigan and Pennsylvania.
Three State Totals
|
Trump |
clinton |
X + Y + Z |
2,107,000 |
2,000,000 |
As can be quickly seen here, Trump leads by 107,000 as per the diary.
How does 55,000 make the difference? Because if just 55,000 votes can be shown to have been wrongly included in Trump’s tally and should instead be in Clinton’s tally, this is what you’d get in the final result:
Adjusted three state totals
adjustment: |
Trump |
clinton |
55,000 votes removed from Trump tally and moved to the clinton tally: |
2,107,000 — 55,000 |
2,000,000 +55,000 |
new totals: |
2,052,000 |
2,055,000 |
Therefore Clinton would win by 3,000 votes.
I hope this helps.
So yes that explains the discrepancy — I am ashamed to admit I did not realize that to begin with.
Either way, it was very close and given the following statement from the Guardian link above and the fact that Trump clearly has close ties to Russia I am convinced we need this audit and recount in these 3 states so that we can verify the vote tallies.
In a joint statement issued last month, the office of the director of national intelligence and the Department for Homeland Security said they were “confident” that the theft of emails from the DNC and from Clinton’s campaign chair, John Podesta, which were published by WikiLeaks, was directed by the Russian government.
I wish Hillary’s campaign would request the recount but there is a reluctance because of this:
Some senior Democrats are known to be reluctant to suggest there were irregularities in the result because Clinton and her team criticised Trump so sharply during the campaign for claiming that the election would be “rigged” against him.
But I think this was all a setup by Trump so that we could not pursue a recount because of voting irregularities and we Democrats fell for it hook, line and sinker!! I think Trump was setting a trap for us so that we could not make any claim of a rigged election after coming down on him so hard for making that claim against Democrats!
That is exactly why we NEED to force a recount in these battleground states!
From the above Guardian link Jill says:
Jill Stein, the Green party’s presidential candidate, is prepared to request recounts of the election result in several key battleground states, her campaign said on Wednesday.
Stein launched an online fundraising page seeking donations toward a $2.5m fund she said was needed to request reviews of the results in Michigan, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin.
Stein said she was acting due to “compelling evidence of voting anomalies” and that data analysis had indicated “significant discrepancies in vote totals” that were released by state authorities.
I am NO Jill Stein fan but this time I’m with her! The deadline for funds to request the recount is looming and I am getting ready to donate $100 to Jill Stein to help fund her efforts to force a recount.
To me, with this close of an election, we simply cannot afford to not force a recount regardless of how slim our chances are of it bearing fruit! ANY CHANCE to legitimately keep Trump out of the White House is worth it.
Think of how we would feel if we don’t do this and 6 months from now they gather enough proof that there was just enough election rigging to swing the election to Trump when it should have gone to Hillary! I for one don’t want to face that prospect.
UPDATE: 8PM PST — Jill Stein has now raised roughly $1.83M toward forcing the recount. The current goal is $2.5M for WI. Higher donations are required to cover the remaining states of PA and MI. The donation total is literally GROWING with back to back refreshes of her donation page! Let’s keep up the momentum: however this turns out at least we will KNOW we done our part. Let’s keep the donations flowing!
