The United States public debt is a measure of the obligations of the United States federal government and is presented by the United States Treasury in two components and one total:
Debt Held by the Public, representing all federal securities held by institutions or individuals outside the federal government, including that held by the Federal Reserve System and state and local governments;[1]
Intragovernmental Holdings, representing U.S. Treasury securities held in accounts which are administered by the federal government, such as the OASI Trust fund administered by the Social Security Administration; and
Total Public Debt Outstanding, which is the sum of the above components.[2]

Section 4 confirmed the legitimacy of all United States public debt appropriated by the Congress. It also confirmed that neither the United States nor any state would pay for the loss of slaves or debts that had been incurred by the Confederacy. For example, several English and French banks had lent money to the South during the war.[48] In Perry v. United States (1935), the Supreme Court ruled that under Section 4 voiding a United States government bond "went beyond the congressional power."[49] Legal analyst Jeffrey Rosen has argued that Section 4 gives the president unilateral authority to raise or ignore the national debt ceiling, and that if challenged the Supreme Court would likely rule in favor of expanded executive power or dismiss the case altogether for lack of standing.

Wednesday the senate will vote on Telcom Immunity and giving the President sweeping powers of surveillance. This warrantless search and seizure is totally unnecessary and unconstitutional.
Please let Senator Reid know where you stand.

The NRCC says its former treasurer, Christopher J. Ward, likely made "several hundred thousand dollars in unauthorized transfers of NRCC funds to outside committees whose bank accounts he had access to, including joint fund raising committees in which the NRCC participated. He also appears to have made subsequent transfers of several hundred thousand dollars in funds from those outside committees to what appear to be his personal and business bank accounts."

According to Fort Bend Now, the local republicans are concerned with the number of cross-over voters the impact on down ticket republican candidates.

With a record voter turnout across the country, spurred on by a tight race for the Democratic presidential nomination, the Fort Bend County GOP chairman is cautioning Republicans against cross-voting.
Miller warned Republican voters to "be very cautious about the potential negatives to your Republican organization just to sway one race in the Democratic Primary."

Just when I thought I'd heard everything I came across this on BBC. This is obviously so wrong on so many levels I am at a loss for words.

Human Rights Watch has appealed to Saudi Arabia to halt the execution of a woman convicted of witchcraft.

In a letter to King Abdullah, the rights group described the trial and conviction of Fawza Falih as a miscarriage of justice.

The illiterate woman was detained by religious police in 2005 and allegedly beaten and forced to fingerprint a confession that she could not read.

I like to keep track of issues in the mid-east and often find articles of interest in the Israeli press. I think my fellow kossacks may find them of interest also. I'll start with an intriguing analysis in the Jerusalem Post regarding Democratic Presidential candidates and the Jewish vote.

Israel has historically practiced and supported apartheid, it was one of the last states supporting South Africa's racist regime.
