Please take some time to call your Senators and Representatives and urge them to support The Helping Families Save their Homes in Bankruptcy Act of 2009 (H.R. 200). The bill has already been approved by the House Judiciary Committee along a string party-line vote (with all Democrats voting yes and all Republicans, of course, voting no), and will soon be voted on by the full House and Senate. This legislation has the support of the National Association of Consumer Bankruptcy Attorneys. You can read the full text of it for yourself here, or you can read the CRS summary here.
Not all of us understand this, sad to say, and so we've continued to call him a chickenhawk. Now, though, he's come up with the Final Solution. I had breakfast with my friend Doctor Vickie on Wednesday morning. She said she likes to come to the website and she always enjoys reading it but half the time she doesn't know what we're talking about. I explained that I know some times it seems impenetrable; bloggers tend to talk to the blogosphere, we assume people are following the conversation and are familiar with the cast of characters, storylines and slang that are conventions here. It can make it awfully hard to catch on. In our defense, people who show up here day after day get tired of having the same things explained over and over again, and since those are the ones we hear from the most we tend to respond to their wishes.
So I thought, why don't we create a dictionary of slang for newbies? That way, pissed off Americans who find their way to Left Blogostan will be able to quickly jump into the fray without having to lurk or ask awkward questions. I have an uneasiness with many anti-war organizations, and I am sometimes relunctant to join with them because of these misgivings. One of these is that the organizations seem more about vilifying their enemies (Bush and the police) and scoring political points rather than staying on the anti-war message. Case-in-point: one of our local anti-war organizations, St. Pete for Peace.
