Via Raw Story, we learn today that origins of the modern Tea Party date back to Adolf Hilter, who attempted to "have tea" with the Boy Scout founder Lord Robert Baden-Powell in 1937.
Britain's Baden-Powell, who started the Scouts in 1907, held talks with German ambassador Joachim von Ribbentrop and Hitler Youth chief of staff Hartmann Lauterbacher on November 19, 1937.
Lauterbacher, then 28, was in Britain to foster closer relations with the Boy Scout movement and Ribbentrop invited Baden-Powell to tea with the Hitler Youth leader, newly declassified MI5 Security Service files revealed.
While the afternoon pink-raising and scone-dabbling event never occurred, the seeds of today's movement were planted and left dormant for over seventy years before emerging from the soil following the election of President Obama in 2008. The draft agenda for the meeting, while not publicly acknowledged, almost certainly included discussion of what to do with gays, jews, foreigners, and how to discretely wipe scone crumbs from your lap before standing up.
