Well, this really wasn't too surprising to me and my sister when we found out Cathy McMorris Rogers will give the GOP reply to the State of the Union speech next Tuesday. We have been talking about politics of late and she thinks that because 2016 will all be about women, with Hillary running no doubt, the GOP is keenly aware of this, and they are also keenly aware that we have been calling them out, on their "war on women."
She also thinks, and I do as well, that it will be a man from the GOP who runs for the Repugs. in 2016, BUT, we think they will pick a woman as a V.P. again, like the disaster that Sarah Palin was, but they will pick someone with higher favorability ratings within their party, and this could be McMorris Rogers.....you may have heard it here first.
Sadly, it does not look like anyone from the D's is going to challenge McMorris Rogers this year. Last year a fellow with deep pockets, which would be required, in this case a Mr. Rich Cowan who owns a local movie studio, ran against her, but for some reason got into the race late, and by then it was to late.
Mr. Cowan this time, is running again, but for a seat in the State House unfortunately. He will be my write in candidate on the ballot next November as an alternate to McMorris Rogers. As I write this, I know of no local Dem. competition, and that is sad, as the voters of the 5th Congressional district do not hold Cathy accountable. Even though our local economy is only now starting to pick up some steam, we are still quite a ways behind the Seattle area, and probably on the national level as well. For those who don't know this district, Spokane is the "big city", and the rest of the district is largely small agricultural towns, dotted here and there. Thier economy is largely agricultural, and thats it. The District is blood red, esp. the further north of Spokane you go, and the further east of Spokane you go as well. Spokane I would classify as purplish overall. Our city council in Spokane is now leaning progressive left, for the first time in a long time, which is quite refreshing.
But the Repubs here will generally support anyone with an "R" stamped after their name.
Spokane is not a very wealthy city either as some of you may know. Far from it. There is at least one district located in the city that may be the poorest in the state of Washington.
I know the cuts to the food stamp program, that she and her ilk supported were devastating locally. They even affect me, though I am fortunate and don't get much to begin with. So in my opinion she takes this District entirely for granted, and in turn the voters here do not hold her accountable sorry to say.
I for one, will not be watching her reply. What I expect to hear is her bending over backwards I suspect to go harder right, and of course to attack Obama. I also expect to hear the party's line again, on Obamacare, which is what? Except no, no no, lets repeal it.
I expect to hear nothing knew she/they will offer as any alternatives as well probably something on the order of "lets go back to what we had." Gotta love the Repugs, always thinking/looking backwards.. So I will be watching and listening to the R's about their V.P. candidate in 2016, as I think it may very well be McMorris-Rogers....we shall see.
