I unfortunately live in Mississippi's 3rd Congressional District, which is represented by Gregg Harper, an ornery teabagger if there ever was one. If I lived about ten miles further West, I'd be in Bennie Thompson's district, who is the only one out of our three House Democrats who voted for the stimulus package and health care reform.
But despite that fact, I still write and call Rep. Harper's office at every chance I get and encourage him to do the right thing, not the conservative thing. And he always sends me the most bullshit replies filled with every FOX news talking point you could muster. He also sends out a little e-newsletter to his constituents every few weeks just to remind us that he's all for doing everything he can to not support Democratic efforts to revive the economy, despite the desperate need for government help in his own district.
The latest newsletter talked about how letting the Bush tax cuts expire would hurt poor ol' mom and pop small business and raise taxes on all us working folks. I'd had enough and was inspired to write some slam poetry, which I emailed to his office. I don't expect him to respond. I just hope he reads it. The first stanza is "him," and the second stanza is me.
Read it below the fold if you're interested.
