The Democrats lost this year not because Republicans were so popular, but because there's a clear lack of effective messaging. Even worse, we lost one of our most Progressive heroes in the House. And that hurts. But there's a silver lining that the President needs to take advantage of here.
More below the fold.
Cenk Uygur pointed out that bipartisanship doesn't work when one side does all the compromising. And he's right; touchdowns aren't scored on the 50-yard line. and a lot of Progressives, including myself, were very upset with the President when guys representing him like Rahm Emanuel and Robert Gibbs constantly bashed Progressives and the netroots, while the President refused to take up for us.
And I think we're all sick of polite Democrats who smile and extend a hand toward the same people spitting on us and calling us Marxists. So here's a way the President can fix all of those problems; messaging, appeal to progressives, and going after the liars and corporatists on the right.
Fire the weak-kneed, polite, soft-spoken Robert Gibbs. and hire Progressive champion and staunchly Progressive Democrat Alan Grayson as the President's new spokesman.
Who better to be a voice for Obama's vision of progressivism than Grayson? Who better to viciously go after the Republicans for policy that favors corporations over the working class? Who better to be a voice for Democrats that embraces Democracy?
It would be a bold move, but it would greatly benefit the media narrative to have Grayson speaking for the President. I hope Grayson's office gets a call from the President today. Let's hope we find some silver lining out of Tuesday night's debacle.
