We’ve been talking abortion rights in our weekly podcast, The Brief. Two weeks ago, we talked messaging with Christine Pelosi. Last week, we talked about the midterm elections with EMILY List’s Christina Reynolds, and the $150 million (and hopefully more!) that they, NARAL, and Planned Parenthood Action Fund will be spending to center abortion rights this November. And today? We’ll go on the ground to see how the issue is playing in swing and rural districts.
Joining us will be Washington state Sen. Emily Randall, who has been knocking on doors in her tough swing district in the Kitsap Peninsula. In 2018, she won her election by 104 votes out of 70,000 cast—in a good Democratic year. She’ll talk to us about what she’s seeing on the ground as she campaigns for reelection.
Also joining us will be Matt Hildreth, executive director of RuralOrganizing.org, about how the issue is playing among the rural voters Democrats desperately need to win in order to offset massive Republican advantages in those counties. Can the abortion rights issue help cut into those margins, or will it complicate Democratic efforts?
You can watch the show live right here on Tuesdays at 1:30 PM PT/4:30 PM ET, while the podcast version goes live Wednesday mornings at all the usual places, including Apple Podcasts and Spotify. A full list of places to download the show is available here.
