It’s now been over a week since the bombshell leak of Justice Alito’s draft opinion killing abortion rights, taking aim at gay rights, and damaging the underpinnings of decisions dealing with interracial marriage and contraception. This week on The Brief, our weekly show/podcast about politics, we’ll be talking to Christina Reynolds, VP of Communications at EMILY's List, which along with NARAL and Planned Parenthood is spending $150 million to center abortion rights in this November’s elections.
The groups [...] will spend the nine-figure investment on paid ads, field programs, messaging research and polling starting in nine states, all of which feature top congressional and gubernatorial races this fall. The spending will be spread across offices up and down the ballot, from state legislative races to Senate races, in Georgia, Nevada, Arizona, Michigan, Pennsylvania, New Hampshire, California, Kansas and Wisconsin.
With the High Court set to overturn a cherished right, the fight will necessarily shift to the electoral battleground. There is no other recourse. We’ll talk with Reynolds about how they see the fight shaping up, and our chances of success.
You can watch the show live right here on Tuesdays at 1:30 PM PT/4:30 PM ET, while the podcast version goes live Wednesday mornings at all the usual places, including Apple Podcasts and Spotify. A full list of places to download the show is available here.
