The purpose of this diary is to give us troops some ammunition. (If you're short on time and need to get to the phone, grab your ammo from the Seven Laws blockquote at the bottom.) We progressives are in a serious economic war with the insurance industry. Their fat profits and their jobs are at stake, so they are fighting damned hard. Our own economic and physical survival are at stake, so we must fight harder and smarter. Put bluntly, their profits are on the line, but our lives are on the line.
As a physician, I like the good parts of medical care in the U.S., but I'm angry and ashamed of how poorly we care for huge numbers of our fellow Americans.
I know it's time for a major change in how we finance medical care in this country. We need some improvement in access to care, but I'm confident that if care is adequately paid for, the problems of access will diminish significantly. I know that we here at Dailykos are on the side of humanity, logic, reason, and hope. Now we need to apply force--strong moral and political force.
