I am so unbelievably angry right now.

My older brother, loyal employee of McDonalds Canada for several years and two-time employee of the month, was axed today by the owners of his location because they couldn't justify keeping the laughable wages they pay him for a couple of days a week on their payroll.

I know it's a business decision. But how, in good conscience, can you fire a mentally challenged person who LOVED his job and DIDN'T CARE HOW MUCH YOU PAID HIM?

Someone please answer me that.

I'm not one for sensationalism but this title stands. The issue at hand is important enough, and I feel strongly enough about it, that I'm willing to be over the top. Except I don't think I'm being over the top.

The news is that Oprah Winfrey's production company is going to be giving Jenny McCarthy, standard-bearer of the anti-vaccine movement, her own show. Because apparently the goddess of anti-vax hasn't already had enough media exposure, and deserves a national platform from which to spew her dangerous brand of lunacy.

So it looks like Sean Hannity is willing to undergo waterboarding in a misguided attempt to prove it "isn't" torture. Great.

The current discussion on dkos right now seems to be between the "Hannity will totally get what he deserves" camp, and the "Hannity shouldn't be allowed to turn torture into a joke" camp.

Neither will happen, and here's why. Because no matter how powerful an emotional reaction Hannity will get out of us, it will not compare to the sight of seeing someone actually waterboarded.

Christopher Hitchens proved that.

One particular segment on tonight's Anderson Cooper 360 was just freaking outstanding.

I don't always agree with Paul Begala, but tonight he took Ari Fleischer - a man who currently spends much of his time waterboarding semantics in order to defend the crimes of the Bush Administration - down to the closest beverage establishment, sat him down at the bar, and served him a tall refreshing glass of Shut The Fuck Up.

President Obama has made it absolutely clear that he's going to allow the Bush tax cuts to expire, which means that those households earning over $250 000 annually would see increases in their income taxes.

Which of course has lead the Right Wing Reactionaries and their MSM lackies to begin incessantly wailing and gnashing their teeth, proclaiming that these are the end times for upper-middle class families and small businesses because ZOMG OBAMA WILL SEND YOU TO THE POOR HOUSE.

I see it all over the place - racism being equated to ignorance. People expressing disbelief about how so-and-so can be educated and seemingly intelligent and yet still harbour such 'ignorant' views about race.

Well, it makes a whole lot more sense if you accept that racism is not actually the same thing as ignorance at all. It's a distinction that people aren't making, and that's really starting to piss me off.
