So... Elections are a long way off, and I feel kind of silly getting caught up in them so early - but, well, as EMILY says, Early Money Is Like Yeast - and I really want us to pick up a strong majority in the House next year - and a more liberal one. Like Atrios says, more and better Democrats, please!

So let's get cracking. September, a fundraising letter from Larry Grant reminds me, is the end of the third quarter, and candidates like to show good returns at the end of a quarter (or maybe it's just another good excuse to ask for money - what do I know?). To run the campaigns, to win the races, they certainly do need the money, and we've got a little to spare, haven't we? Big expensive holidays are a few months away, those Chicago bills are all paid... Let's raise some money for candidates in September.

I donated $100 to the Joseph and Valerie Wilson Legal Support Trust.

And tomorrow I'm going to gather even more signatures in support of impeachment.

Dear Congresswoman Davis,

I am angry about your vote on Thursday to support the Iraq War Funding bill. I gave my anger time to cool before writing, but not a lot of cooling has happened, and I don't foresee much more cooling happening.

Early in our correspondence regarding the impeachment of Bush and Cheney, on January 31st of this year, you said:

"If we were to pursue impeachment, it would be the only issue people would focus on. To me, ending the war in Iraq is a higher priority."

And while I strongly disagree with that premise, I can respect and appreciate that you would give top priority to getting our troops out of Iraq. As you know, I disagree with the premise because I consider impeachment one of the best ways to put pressure on this president to end our occupation of Iraq - but that is a disagreement over means and tactics, not over objectives. But Thursday's vote betrays that priority; it tells me, stronger than words can, that you support the carnage our nation is engaged in Iraq.

I just received email saying that Speaker Pelosi is accepting and expecting calls urging the impeachment of Bush and Cheney. Please call 202-225-0100 and express your opinion. The message is below the fold.

Two and a half days, six presidential candidates, 2,264 delegates. Fiery rhetoric, sloppy speechifying, backslapping. Cheerleading. Words and words and words. Out of Iraq universal health care choice Darfur education impeachment toll road Katrina. The best Democratic state party anywhere; the best primary slate ever; the great Chairman Art Torres.

I got email from Tom Vilsack today entitled, "Why Hillary is my choice". Then I was talking with a couple of colleagues at lunch, and one asked if I was supporting Hillary's presidential bid. Setting aside that it's far too early to be obsessing over the 2008 presidential race, I want to have my reasons for opposing Hillary clearly laid out somewhere, and this seems like as good a place as any. Reading up on the prosecutor purge, I was suddenly struck by something: there's no sign of Cheney in this particular scandal. It seemed somehow simultaneously surprising and perfectly natural.

The surprise comes from the fact that Cheney seems to be at the head of most of the evil that this administration does. Torture, illegal wars, energy policy, kickbacks, no-bid contracts,
