The past two days have been an emotional roller coaster ride with lots of anger and dissension being exhibited last night and earlier today after Wikileaks’ release of the DNC emails. As the day progressed, I saw anger and confusion transform into understanding — and many were able to develop a different perspective on the motives behind the leak, as additional facts surfaced. It seems now, at the end of the day, that the unity brought about by Senator Sander’s endorsement of Hillary Clinton candidacy will continue and prevail.
Which is why I was distressed to read the following in the Washington Post’s online report on the 2016 presidential election, “The Latest.” Sander's California delegates contemplate walk off
A California delegate says there are serious discussions underway to challenge Hillary Clinton’s pick of Tim Kaine as her running mate.
Norman Solomon, a delegate who supports Bernie Sanders, says there is talk among Sanders’ delegates of walking out during Kaine’s acceptance speech or turning their backs as a show of protest.
Solomon said he believes a “vast majority” of Sanders delegates support these kinds of protests to express their dismay. Sanders’ supporters say they are concerned that Kaine is not progressive enough.
While I understand that some are disappointed that Hillary did not pick Warren or make another more progressive choice, I definitely don’t think this type of action is warranted. Nor do I think Tim Kaine deserves to be insulted in this manner. I hope those delegates contemplating such an action find another way to communicate their disappointment.
