This is a good news, bad news post.
First the good news: Bernie Sanders, After Call From Obama, Announces Support for Iran Deal.
That's great.
I'm glad that he has taken a stand to oppose the neo-cons who want to start a new Middle East war.
Now the bad news. The same NYT article notes that Bernie Sanders will support Chuck Schumer to replace Harry Reid as Democratic leader in the Senate:
The subtext of the calls, of course, was Mr. Schumer’s desire to smooth his ascent as leader of the Democratic caucus. Liberals have already begun criticizing Mr. Schumer for his stance on the Iran deal, suggesting that it should disqualify him from becoming the party’s leader in the Senate.
“I talked to Chuck this morning,” Mr. Sanders said in an interview.
And judging from Mr. Sanders’s comments, it went well for Mr. Schumer.
To be fair, the article does NOT explicitly quote Sanders endorsing Schumer as the next Democratic leader in the Senate. But it does leave the impression that Chuck can count on Bernie's support even if he is successful in helping the Neo-cons start a new war.
I'm undecided, but until I hear Bernie Sanders declare his opposition to Chuck Schumer as Reid's replacement, I can't support him.
One could not support Joe Lieberman and be against the Iraq war. And one cannot support Chuck Schumer while claiming to oppose a war with Iran.
Flame away if you wish, but we only have 42 days left to stop Schumer's War.
UPDATE: changed the title to better reflect that I'm asking a question and not coming to a conclusion. As far as I know, it is still an unknown where Sanders stand of Chuck Schumer replacing Harry Reid as the leader of Democrats in the Senate. I will ask this question of all candidates until I get an answer. I think Schumer has disqualified himself with his rush to war. Others are welcomed to disagree...
