Cobb County was once the base of Newt Gingrich, and it has long been seen as a GOP bastion. That’s been eroding steadily over the past decade as the demographics of the county have changed, and, recently, as Trump’s low ratings have been a drag for the GOP in suburbans areas.
The Cobb County Democratic Party held its annual gala Saturday and featured Georgia gubernatorial candidate Stacey Abrams, along with a number of Democratic candidates for seats in the county, including Lucy McBath, 6th Congressional district candidate who has made gun control a central platform, and Flynn Broady, who hopes to unseat avid Trump supporter Barry Loudermilk in the 11th district.
Democrats are challenging seats in Cobb County at every level, from city councils, county commission, and the state legislature, to U.S. Congressional seats, that haven’t seen serious Democratic opposition in twenty years.
