Just passed mostly with Democratic support but some (at least 13) GOP support. Just another step towards passing a bill to be ignored by the House. The floor debate was as expected with Senators Cruz and Cornyn railing against it even though it is what they've been asking for a long time. Just another example of how commited to obstruction the GOP is.
Rodney Frelinghuysen has served in a Northern NJ district for 20 years primarily based on his name rather than his actions. He has tried to portray himself as a moderate but as the Republican Party has rushed to the Right he has followed. In order to pick up a seat in NJ's redistricting the 11th district was made slightly more Democratic and in 2012 facing a terrible nominee Rodney still failed to hit 60%. Now he finally has a serious challenger in Mark Dunec who has the right private sector experience to really effectively drive the narrative of Frelinghuysen as a career politician. This might not seem like a winnable district but Mr. Dunec could be the one to finally unseat Mr. Frelinghuysen. Please check his site out every little bit helps especially in an uphill battle like this one. http://www.markdunecforcongress.com/
I know I shouldn't get too worked up about political predictions but it has been bugging me for a long time that normally very good analysts (Charlie Cook, I'm talking to you) have rated the Hawaii senate race as a tossup. This is absurd just based on the location. Hawaii has elected 1 Republican senator in its admittedly short time in the Union. So we have a state in which every Senator has been Democratic since my parents were in college. Then you add on the fact that this is a presidential election year which will result in a higher turnout, especially for Democratic voters as they help the President and their favorite son win his second term. Just for good measure lets throw in some amazingly good poll numbers. Stop the madness and make this a safe Democratic seat.
