I know that this statement is not news to folks here but please allow me to vent about Mark Halperin for a few minutes.
Today was a historic day in the Congress as Senators voted to repeal "Don't Ask, Don't Tell."
I am aware that for the most part on this site when race and racism are mentioned one is asking for trouble. Oh well... I am going to speak truth to power. That's my way. You can stop reading now if any discussions about racism immediately make you defensive (fair warning).
It was not a fair fight on the Last Word tonight. Lawrence O'Donnell simply destroyed Alan Grayson. I actually found myself sympathizing with the poor man.
I walked into my office this morning and had back to back meetings. Then I decided to check out the news of the day. Well I am informed that the Senate Republicans are involved in a stick up.
It always comes to this. With the latest hysteria of the moment over TSA pat downs, Americans (elected officials in particular) continue to live down to my expectations.
40% of the country voted in the midterms. The 40% that voted was overwhelmingly white and old. About 60% of that 40% who voted did not support the Democrats. That's what this election amounts to.
It's important to speak truth to power. My fellow brothers and sisters... When the Tea Party and their GOP supporters scream about wanting to "Take Their Country Back," they mean that they want it back from us.
Speaker Boehner and Majority Leader Cantor have begin crafting the legislative agenda for 2011.
Let me start by saying that I am always in favor finding ways to support young people; particularly young people who are targeted by oppression and bullying. Dan Savage's "It Gets Better Project" seems to be a well-intentioned effort. I do, however, want to register another perspective about this effort. I believe that it actually obscures structural and institutional oppression and this is very problematic.
I spent most of my day today making phone calls to potential democratic voters and followed up with some good old fashioned canvassing.
I am going to get killed for posting this non-diary but I don't care. This is too good not to share.
