In an effort to participate more in local Democratic Politics I paid $25 to attend the San Mateo Straw Poll @ the San Mateo Fairgrounds. Most of the candidates were represented by a speaker. Dennis Kucinich spoke for himself. He was the only presidential candidate present. I shook his hand. In the flesh, he looks healthier and younger than he does on TV and Mrs. Kucinich is gorgeous. I voted but didn't stay very long.
There were 761 votes cast by people from various counties. John Edwards got the most votes: 221, 29% of the vote. Dennis Kucinich came in second with 180 votes, Barack Obama came in third and Hilary Clinton was fourth. In the breakdown by county, Dennis Kucinich got the most votes from San Francisco voters.
I talked to a few people and was surprised by how many people like Edwards. I like him myself, and voted for him but I haven't really made up my mind about who I will vote for in the primary. I'm glad I did this because it gave me a much better idea about what fellow San Mateo Democrats are thinking. My overall impression is that Democrats in my area are a lot more progressive than I thought and aren't necessarily buying the corporate media's push to anoint Hilary Clinton.http://strawpoll08.org/StrawPoll.html
