So Tory Brown is trying to publish a second edition of her celebrated game, “Votes for Women” about the Women’s Suffrage Movement from 1848 to 1920. It had a successful first launch, and the author and publisher thought they could make a successful launch of the second edition by using Kickstarter supported by their use of social media.
Unfortunately, their expectation about who they could reach via social media was cut short by Meta/Facebook.
According to Boardgamewire:
Facebook bans ads for award-winning Votes for Women board game’s new Kickstarter, claims it is a “sensitive social issue” [article title]
According to Dicebreaker:
Votes for Women’s publisher is fighting a baffling spree of Facebook advertisement bans for the second run of the historical board game. The social media platform owned by Meta has left all parties involved completely in the dark.
And from [not a boardgame champion, necessarily] www.pcgamer.com/...:
Facebook rejects ads for popular board game Votes for Women: '[It] may impact the outcome of an election or pending legislation' [article title]
Please support the game in it’s last few days on Kicstarter if you’d like. I know folks are going to blame this on “TEH ALGRATHM” in the industry media, but, come on, how the hell did Social Apps get coded to keep this game out?
It has about a week open to support it. It’s a good “modern” game with a mix of mechanics that I can’t wait to explore. It’s been compared very favorobly by folks I know/follow to Twilight Struggle, which, if you are a boardgame geek, means a lot.
And if you REALLLY are interested, here is an awesome interview of the awesome Tory Brown that includes a ton of insight in many areas (especially boardgame stuff—be warned, LOL! But also Social Movements and great stuff).
