As we do every weekend, we now turn to, heavy sigh, what Donald Trump is tweeting this weekend. The Great Gilded Garbage Fire spent the weekend playing golf again, because of course he did. When a government bungle broadcast emergency messages to Hawaiians telling them that a ballistic missile was on its way, he was on the golf course. He made no comment whatsoever on the event; he has spent all of his available finger-time tweeting things he's been watching on Fox News, and/or tweeting self-flattery, and/or making Lindberghian America First shouts just like in the olden days when America was debating whether to fight the Nazis or admire them.
This is rote, at this point. He said a bunch of things. They hopscotched from lying to delusional; not a damn one of them could be considered presidential. They are the gaseous burps of an already-decaying man.
He retweeted Fox News personality Lou Dobbs and spent two tweets thanking Stuart Varney for praising him on Fox and Friends.
The sitting "president" also retweeted a well-known white nationalist conspiracy theorist best known for holding up a sign demanding the rape of Trump's own wife. Why that past move was not grounds for Trump condemning or ignoring him now, as opposed to rewarding the oozing pustule with even greater publicity, is still unknown, but Trump was also accused this week of soliciting sex from porn stars during his marriage to Melania so it doesn't seem Trump gives a flying damn about how he or anyone else humiliates his wife.
He did defend himself from what he apparently believes is a more serious slight, denying that he told the Wall Street Journal "I have a good relationship with Kim Jong Un", claiming he'd said I'd, not I. Whether you believe this (the recording itself is not decisive) might depend on ignoring the follow-up question and Trump's response: When the Journal reporter asked him directly if he had spoken to the North Korea leader, Trump refused to answer, which would be an odd thing except that every other part of the conversation identically consisted of asinine stream-of-consciousness gibberish so there's little point in pretending any of it was intended as something other than grandiose lying.
Oh, and he retweeted a New York Post story about, we shithole you not, Hillary Clinton's emails.
Not demonstrated, at any point this weekend: Evidence that Donald was spending a single minute of his weekend doing "presidential" duties. He spent the time golfing and watching partisans praise him on television. That's it. Nothing else. Zip, zilch, nada.
The man continues to degrade the office, and degrade while in office. He is unfit. He is a racist, and a conspiracy theorist, and he would be a devoted propagandist if there was evidence he truly intended to lie, as opposed to the more likely truth—that between one day and the next, he truly cannot remember what he has said or done or promised the day prior. He is being propped up by a party willing to support his racist attacks on immigrants, his anti-American attacks on the press, and his every delusional whim because they believe they can bend those attacks into support for the rest of their agenda. They own him.
