Here's leadership for you, Republican style. When asked about what he's doing about immigration, the Dream Act, the bipartisan reform bill being introduced today, and what all that means for shutdown talks, he passed the buck to the White House.
"I am looking for something that President Trump supports and he has not yet indicated what measure he is willing to sign. As soon as we figure out what he is for then I would be convinced that we are not just spinning our wheels going through this issue on the floor but actually dealing with a bill that has a chance to become law."
Right. He's waiting for the guy who changes his mind every five minutes depending on who he talked to last to tell him what to do.
Remember when the Congress operated on equal footing to the White House? It wasn't that long ago—under McConnell's leadership the Senate regularly went against President Barack Obama's wishes. He didn't have any trouble at all using the power of the legislative branch to negotiate with the executive.
McConnell has a bill. It's bipartisan. If it was put on the floor of the Senate it would pass. If it was put to a vote in the House, it would pass. Then Trump would have to decide what to do about it. Like it's always been meant to work.
McConnell isn't just ruining his own reputation. He's not just ruining the Senate. He's ruining the whole shebang, the whole of our constitutional system. To keep brown people out of the country.
