First Trump was “eager” to talk to special counsel Robert Mueller. Then Trump attorney Rudy Giuliani said that Trump would be happy to talk to Mueller as long as the talk wasn’t too long. Well, not too long and not about his business. Or obstruction. Not his business or obstruction or anything too personal. Or anything but collusion, really. Trump would be happy to talk to Mueller as long as it was short, not about his business, or anything personal, or obstruction, or … actually, Giuliani now says there’s no reason for Trump to talk to Mueller at all. Because he already has.
Because, according to Giuliani, Trump’s testimony has been laid out one tweet at a time. Speaking on CBS Face the Nation, Giuliani explained why Trump doesn’t really need to sit down for an interview.
Giuliani: A lot of his tweets have been very helpful. The reason he may not have to testify is that he’s laid out his defense very clearly,
So, what is Trump’s testimony?
Trump: The people of Scotland are really starting to fight the ugly industrial wind turbines.
Well … that’s neither true nor helpful. Or maybe this.
Trump: Joe Paterno's family should sue the idiots at Penn State that made that ridiculous deal--and commissioned the one sided report.
Jim Jordan probably approves that one. But it’s still probably not what Giuliani is talking about. But of course, the tweets that Giuliani is thinking about are no more testimony than his comments on Rosie O’Donnell.
But what what Robert Mueller can find in Trump’s tweets is plenty of lies. Lies about his knowledge of the Trump Tower meeting. Lies about his authorship of the excuse for that meeting. Lies about the actions of other members of his campaign and staff. Lies about Comey, and McCabe, and plenty of lies about Mueller and his team.
if Rudy Giuliani really thinks that Trump’s tweets “lay out his defense,” then the only thing that’s clear is … he doesn’t have one. Another way to read this statement is that Rudy Giuliani also doesn’t have any ideas for Trump’s defense.
