Former Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid said Democratic leadership is approaching the possibility of initiating impeachment proceedings for Donald Trump "the right way" in an interview with the New York Times. But he also warned that if Trump blocked people like special counsel Robert Mueller or former White house counsel Don McGahn from testifying, that would be a "trigger point" for impeachment.
"I think the Mueller report deserves a full airing," Reid said of holding hearings. But Trump better be "very careful," Reid added. "If they’re going to order McGahn and Mueller and others not to testify, I think that opens the door to impeachment."
Reid was bullish on the "public nature" of the hearings and emphasized their importance. But if Trump tries to rob the public of that opportunity, that should be the breaking point for Democrats, in his view.
"The one, I repeat, trigger point is if they try to not allow people to come forward and testify," said Reid.
