The New York Times has a nice little profile on White House Press Secretary Stephanie Grisham’s history in their “Stephanie Grisham’s Turbulent Ascent to a Top White House Role” article, Thursday. The real takeaway from this profile is that Grisham comes with all of the warning signs we have come to expect from a Republican administration, and maybe more so from this current crew of cons and grifters.
Her career history contains red flags that most administrations might deem troubling. They include losing a private-sector job after being accused of cheating on expense reports, a later job loss over plagiarism charges and two arrests for driving under the influence, the second while working on Mr. Trump’s campaign.
Most photos you find of Grisham and Trump mirror those of Vice President Pence and Trump. Both Pence and Grisham seem to have learned that the most important way to stay on this burning gravy train is to stand quietly and look reverently at your orange mad king. According to the Times, when she was working in Trump’s campaign in 2016, she told a reporter that she was “riding it until the money runs out.” She wanted to head back home to Arizona to figure out her next move. Of course, that money hasn’t run out and now Trump and friends are trying to siphon off as much money as they can with the time they have left.
The details of Ms. Grisham’s DUIs and her wonky work history, before she pivoted into conservative politics where dubious behavior is rewarded, are simple. She lost a job at AAA due to fraudulent expense reports and she lost a subsequent job at Mindspace because she helped create a website with entirely plagiarized copy for an unsuspecting client.
Grisham became Trump’s press secretary after Sarah Huckabee Sanders finished her tour of duty and decided she wanted a few years to rehabilitate her image. Like most former Trump employees, Huckabee Sanders will spend most of her time trying to convince the public that she is human. Grisham has decided that the best tactic for a press secretary is to hold zero press appearances since July 1. It’s a novel approach, but probably a smart one from someone just trying to make that money while their boss shoots everyone in the foot.
