Today, as per custom, Bush will lay the wreath at Arlington and say some words about America's veterans. But does the Bush administation really care about our average soldiers?
If so, why did they propose cutting combat pay to the troops, saying it was too expensive - yet they could give billions in tax cuts to millionaires?
If they really care about our troops, why do they propose cutting veterans benefits and hospitals, and why are any of the wounded being treated in sub-standard conditions?
If they are compassionate about our fighting men and women, why did it take an act of congress to stop charging the wounded for their hospital meals?
If they care so much about our soldiers and their families, why do troops on leave get dumped in a convenient city and are forced to pay for the rest of their trip home to see their families?
Why do they have to pay for their own phone calls home from Iraq?
Why are the remains of those who died in combat snuck back home in the middle night so as not to give bad press?
Why do they make up stories about Jessica Lynch to sell the war, yet fail to talk about the families of the dead and maimed, or the soldier still in Iraq who misses his or her family?
My best guess is that Bush cares as much about our brave soldiers as he cares about the average hard-working men and women of this country.
Yesterday, his administration said "nothing of value has ever been won without sacrifice."
What he really means is "you sacrifice, we get rich."
