Well, enough recorded in my brain to register serious doubts about Wes Clark as possible veep for Dean. First, the bungled campaign opening (forgiveable) on the plane to the annoucement where he seemed to both support and oppose the war resolution (much less forgiveable, but I recognize he wasn't at the table with all that murky intel), but now this comment from the debate where, to Cooper's question, "What's your personal comfort level with homosexuals? And do you have any gay friends?" Clark reveals.. well, you make of it what it reveals:
"The answer is, I do have gay friends. And there are gays who serve in the US armed forces. And they do a very good job. But when they are -- when they acknowledge who they are and their sexual preference, they leave. So I've got a very good comfort level with that."
There's lots that I'm troubled by here. Too much actually to list at this hour. Whether Dean chooses to make the equal treatment of gays in the military a big issue or not (and recall that story 'bout the old guy from Normandy that thanked Dean for signing the civil unions bill!), Clark's comments here are really quite offensive. At least I don't see any inoffensive way to read them. He should certainly be called to account at the next debate.
