The GOP prescription drug bill is a first step in their long-range goal of dismantling Medicare. There have been a few diaries on this topic but it needs more attention. So I am posting my reply to Chazz's diary post so it shows up on the fast moving diary list. I hope this can be a main topic of discussion on KOS.
I have the same question. Why is this not a top level topic? There have been a number of dairy entries but it is not getting the discusssion it warrants.
The GOP prescription drug bill and the infiltration of AARP with Novelli are the first major steps in the GOP's longterm goal of privatizing Medicare and Social Security--in other words dismantling both programs.
I am only guessing that this may be because many kosers are on the younger side of the age range. I never paid much attention to Medicare until I had to apply for it for my father.
His insurance company and two of his "compassionate conservative" children did not come through when he needed admission to a skilled nursing care facility for advanced Alzheimers. For those who may not know this...that costs $4,000 plus per month. $48,000 plus a year. His Medicare application was approved 3 months after he was admitted. This is a very common situation...many of you/us will face a variation on it. That is why we need to pay attention.
So again...the prescription drug bill is a critical issue for all of us. This is not just an issue for the Senior bloc of voters. If the GOP objective of dismantling Medicare (with this first step) can be clearly communicated to the voters, the Democrats can rally with it. But we need to pay attention!
