The military has a real job to do. Philosophically I'm entirely anti-war. War is crime. But in practical terms, it's not a bad idea to have a strong military. Call it situational ethics. It's still the way of the world.
Is there common ground with conservatives on this issue? Where is it?
Even Ike, a Republican, gave us a culturally important warning and term, "guard against ... the military-industrial complex". The Democrats have a door open right now to step in and accept their portion of the people that consider themselves supporters of the military.
General Clark brings to mind the idea of Bosnia v. Iraq as shorthand for the styles of support, no? Or maybe Bosnia and Iraq is more apt. (?)
I'm not talking about a campaign issue, an image thing. I'm asking if you (can) support the military now or under the right circumstances.
