Maybe his latent conscience is kicking in.
"It's clearly a tragic day for America...In a long, hard war, we're going to have tragic days. But they're necessary. They're part of a war that's difficult and complicated."
Wow. Rummy's leaked memo and now this. It's hard to believe this is the same man who made it seem
sooo simple: America could handle three wars at once and
still be able to take on any threat the terrorists might bring to bear!
Actually, I don't credit Rummy with having experienced any sudden epiphany. The terms "difficult and complicated" seem too much in keeping with the neocon party line regarding the Valerie Plame scandal: "This story's too difficult and complicated, so we should all just ignore it."
As much as the Bush Administration may wish the Blue Fairy would pop in and turn Iraq into a real success, that's not going to happen. Furthermore, as much as they may want the American public to believe this situation is complicated, it's really quite simple:
Our troops are dying because of the Bush Administration's negligence and incompetence!
Nope, not very difficult to understand at all.
