This is over a week old (it was Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick's reaction to the Detroit debate), but this transcript page didn't work back at the time, and I thought he really had some sage advice:
"We want to hear about those real bread and butter issues that parents and children and families care about every single day. Not about $87 billion. And not about President Bush in every answer. I want to hear about what you're going to do to move America forward."

Probably not popular thoughts in these parts, but this so hits the nail on the head in my view. It's what the Democrats have to do if they are going to resonate with broad numbers of voters rather than hang out in an echo chamber.
