A simple observation: if Bush can't handle Diane Sawyer's relatively timid line of questioning, then how is he possibly going to stand against Dean or Clark?
On the ABC evening news tonight, there was a clip of the exclusive 'one-on-one' interview between Sawyer and Bush to be shown in its entirety later tonight. She asked what would simply be the lead-in question in a presidential debate (paraphrased): You and your administration claimed that Iraq [had anthrax/nuclear weapons/drone WMD deployment platforms/etc], but there's no sign of them, so...WTF?
Bush's response, almost in its entirety, was "We all knew Saddam was a bad guy, and the President must respond to such a threat." At the same time, his feathers got noticably ruffled. Given such a performance, how is he not going to get creamed?
(Media barrage notwithstanding I suppose.)
