Am I the only one sick and tired of the DNC Demolition Derby?
Here is my analysis:
The victory against Bush shall not be won by moving to the center; it will be won by making sure that our base goes out and vote.
Last time, lest we forget, we won the popular vote, and we would clearly have won the election had Gore carried either Tennessee or Florida.
In the first case, the NRA endorsement doomed him; in the second case, the Nader voters did him in.
Plus, Bush was perceived as a harmless, jovial Bertie wooster-kind of guy who'd govern from the Center.
One may well speculate that Bush's base will be less united in 2004, and centrist elements may not so easily rally to his banner.
Yes, the election will be close, just as it was close last time. But I see no reason to despair if our base remains strong and united.
