As millions of Texans go without health insurance and other basic necessities of life, Pete Sessions, the Republican running against Martin Frost- the dean of the Texas Congressional Delegation- denies that there is a problem of poverty in our country:
"The poorest of the poor have color TVs ... indoor plumbing," Mr. Sessions said, disputing a question about the economic gap between the wealthiest and poorest Americans becoming historically wide.
Just what you'd expect from a man who grew up the child of a millionaire- disgraced former FBI Director William Sessions. Apparantly Pete learned a thing or two about abuse of power from his dad, as he endorsed the First Amendment-shredding USA Patriot Act:
"It's in the public interest and the public good," Mr. Sessions said of the Patriot Act. "I don't think we have something to fear."
Isn't it amusing that a man who is running a negative attack campaign, deriding his opponent as a liberal, would violate the most basic conservative value of limited government? Apparantly winning elections and falling all over yourself to cravenly carry water for George Bush are more important than standing up for the constitution and for civil rights.
