The CNN Interview: After taking a drubbing for his growling performance after coming in third in the Iowa caucuses, Dean took a swipe at the news media.
"I never worry about the news media being fair. The news media does what the news media does. They're an entertainment businesses at least as much as the news media," he said.
"I think you report the news, you create the news and that's what you guys do. And that's fine."
Howard Dean just can't seem to stop himself, can he?
Howard Dean looks like he's coming in second and personally I think Americans are quite willing to give the guy, Howard Dean another shot but his interview with CNN's Wolf Blitzer is the second time Dean's made nasty little snipes at big media people like Blitzer.
Howard is right about the media but still this commentary was very unprofessional. As Carville said on NPR, Howard Dean has a discipline problem and this certainly was exactly what Carville means and what he is talking about.
The question is, can Howard Dean control himself?
I've noticed that Howard Dean has a propensity to shoot himself in the foot. It seems that Howard has some kind of little psychological self-destruct mechanism ticking away in his mind. For example, with Howard and his wife, Judy's interview with Diane Sawyer on ABC's Primetime, I noticed that in the closing, Howard Dean made a little snipe at Ms. Sawyer, and I could tell Ms. Sawyer really didn't like it. I saw it her eyes, and I know that all the public veiwers saw that too.
Perhaps this is something Gov. Dean doesn't understand as well as, I'm sure, that both his lawyer advisory's certainly do, and that is that "anything you say can and will be used against you", so why is Howard Dean giving the media more proof of his inability to control himself? Howard Dean has to got to stop behaving like this with his press interviews and in his speeches too.
Maybe Howard Dean is still failing to hold any culpability over himself in regard to what happen to his poll numbers? So for now hopefully Dean is getting over his little tantrums as Tom pointed out that Dean is "hitting his stride".
The Democratic Party, whether the Party knows it or not, needs Howard Dean as does the people of the US. Howard Dean also needs the Party and the people as well, because Dean really owns them for all their many personal contributions and a many of politicians and journalist have also gone out on a limb for Howard Dean, so it was my hope that Dean felt some awe-inspiring indebtedness to them, some deep binding respect.
Tom was right, I hope Dean can start acting like a nominee too, because from yesterday's interview, Howard Dean still wasn't acting like one. I sure hope his next interview goes a lot better.
