I've read stats that say anywhere from 1/3 - 1/2 of the U.S. voting public is registered as independent. If you include the segment of America that doesn't vote it can be eve higher (Deans widest support probably comes from this segment - talk about a catch 22)
This group of independents tends to include the highest amount of people disgusted with our current political system or parties in general - therefore more incline to support a maverick candidate. I count myself as one of these people. I find myself leaning toward supporting Dean because he represents a more democratic shift in how we finance these quixotic and increasingly corrupt campaigns for elected office. But on super tuesday I cannot vote simply because I refuse to label myself an elephant or an ass. How many Dean supporters do you suppose are in my shoes? So I'm asking "Is the true will of the people being skewed by this fact?"
