According to an AP release, today the wounded in Iraq has topped 8 thousand. It went on with some interesting parallels and number crunchings (not that troops are ever numbers but indicitive of insurgency resistance):
The total of 8,016 is more than double what it was six months ago when the insurgency suddenly accelerated.
On April 5 the number wounded in action stood at 2,988; by April 26 it had grown to 3,864.
It surpassed the 5,000 mark in early June and crossed the 7,000 mark in early September.
That means over 1000 wounded in a single month.
The insurgency is growing like wildfire. The only way to truly tell how many troops are affected is by casualties, and not by KIA.
Troops are surviving at a ratio of 8:1 after being hit which is good for family members and loved ones but horrible when looking at numbers. Past wars have had WIA:KIA ratios of 2:1 or 4:1 but never 8:1 that I know of.
This is due to the advancements of body armor and various other protections. The military has done surveys and research into this which I can link if anyone wants me to. (I don't want to dig it up needlessly as it will take a good amount of time to track it down again.)
While the 8:1 ratio means more live, it also means Bush's war is much disasterous than the KIA numbers show. And, its heating up more than anyone could have expected.
Get the word out!
