As a party we have a lot to learn about language, as evidenced by George Lakoff's book,
Don't Think of an Elephant. The party has done some things well, like calling Bush "the child president" (that's beautiful).
But one thing I'd like to see is the insertion of the word UNDISCIPLINED. Discipline runs to the central core of everything in the strict father model.
Now you and I know that if the President is anything, it sure as hell isn't DISCIPLINED. But when the Democrats criticize the President for failures that have clearly come about from lack of discipline, the criticisms often do not spell out that the failure is a result of the President's lack of discipline or laziness. The best example of this is the EXIT STRATEGY criticism, where Democrats usually just say "Bush has no exit strategy!" Well, they need to spell it out.
"George Bush claims it's HARD WORK to be President. But how hard was George working when he was too lazy to forge a workable exit strategy in Iraq? John Kerry will provide the discipline needed to get us through the tough times ahead."
"George Bush claims it's HARD WORK to be President. But how hard was George working before 9/11 when he took more vacation than any other President in U.S. history? John Kerry is disciplined enough to see problems ahead of time, and come up with workable solutions for the tough problems we face."
"If George Bush were disciplined enough to examine the evidence that was out there, perhaps he would have found that Iraq had no WMD. John Kerry will go the extra mile to make sure that our enemies are real threats before committing your son or daughter to war."
Stuff like that. Positive stuff about Kerry as the real disciplined one must be added because as Zogby said this morning on Air America, the undecideds have pretty much decided against the president, but Kerry must still close the deal.
