I finally got around to doing some phone banking for the Kerry campaign and it was fantastic. I was nervous at first, calling people up cold and talking to them is
not something I find easy to do. However, everyone on my list was easy to talk to and very anxious to work for the Kerry campaign.
I've only spoken to a few people but several wanted to talk and express their support for Kerry and their dislike of Bush. The kicker is that all my calls were to Colorado. One woman wanted to tell me that by her 'lawn sign poll' Kerry was ahead 77 to 6 (that's right). My first respondant was a little girl who was part of something called kids campaign and who was all set to canvas this weekend. Several other people were very willing to go out and canvas. Of course all my calls were to people who had volunteered, but still everyone that I spoke to was still an enthusiastic supporter for Kerry and willing to help out. There is a lot of support for our guy and the GOTV work is going well and strongly supported.
Once I got started the phoning people was so easy. It was also a very encouraging experience which is helping to build up my morale. So please everyone, especially if you're feeling discouraged by the polls, sign up with ACT, the Kerry campaign or whoever and do some phone banking or canvassing or both. It's important, it helps our cause, and it will make you feel better.
