At the recent Pentagon briefing our puppy dog press failed to ask the obvious question - was there a plan to secure dangerous explosives or not? Instead the trotted out and tried to spin an honest Major who was simply looking for munitions that might endanger their troops and good stuff to use to blow up what was captured. He was not responsible to doing an exhaustive search for documented dangerous explosives and destroy them.
Aside from the pathetic attempt of Di Rita to spin an otherwise honest attempt by a major to describe his job and his efforts, it seems that the press is chasing after the wrong story. No-one seems to have asked - was there a plan to secure IAEA sites? If there was a plan one would assume that you could traipse out a nice knowledgeable Major who could stand up and say "my job was to secure and destroy IAEA monitored sites and here is what I did at Al Qaqaa". Instead they traipse out Major Pearson who states that his job is to look for dangerous ammunition and stuff that he might use to help him blow up ammunition. They seem to have invited the wrong Major. What is more reprehensible is that DiRita stood by, vulture like, and took every opportunity to spin what the Major was saying to support a "gee we just don't know; it is unfortunate that others are so certain" position. From my viewing, this vulture-like behavior is blatant and obvious against a Major who is trying to tell his story without interpretation. It is pathetic when the government stoops to taking a cog in the mighty wheel of the military and use them to spin a planning failure that clearly was the job of higher ups. It is more pathetic that the press is being led around by people like DiRita in a manner that takes the genuine question off of the table - show us that plan that was to deal with known dangerous weapons.
