Tonight, there was an event in a local home in the Mt. Airy section of Philadelphia organized by my Congressman, Chaka Fattah. The Reverend Jesse Jackson came to speak.
He talked about what some Churches are doing to get out the vote. Some Churches are having 6AM services on the Election Day, and they are getting all of their parishioners to go straight from Church to the voting booth. He talked about how the Republicans are doing the opposite. They are trying to suppress the vote and get sensible people not to vote. They are trying to stop the people from exercising their constitutional rights.
More bellow...
One of the most touching things that he said were about the War in Iraq. Where are the WMD? More importantly, where are the missing explosives. He said Saddam Hussein is in prison, and Bin Laden is out their making bad movies. He said that Saddam is in a cell where he can pray the way he wants and get whatever food he likes.
Saddam is getting better treatment then our own troops are.
This is what this election is all about. One time in a local grassroots Kerry office that I work for, a man came in asking for materials, and he told me that his son was in Iraq. I asked him how long that he would be there, and he said that he didn't know. His tour got extended, and they keep changing the dates. A new friend of mine has a brother who died in Iraq. Before, I was against the war because I knew that I was being lied to, and I am against War on principle, even if I know that sometimes we must wield the sword. Now, it is personal, because I hear stories about people who have touched people's lives in a profound way, who have died in this illegal War. Stalin said something to the affect that one death is a tragedy, and a thousand deaths are a statistic. Well, the statistic is bad enough, but the stories that I hear are tragedies.
I am going to fight hard in the next few days to change our country, and I know that you all will do the same. Before, it was business, and now, it is personal.
