here's my letter to the editor of the st. louis post dispatch about last night's debate:
Last night's debate between Senator Edwards and Vice President Cheney underscored just how deeply out of touch and deceptive Mr. Cheney is. At one point Mr. Cheney claimed that he had only met Edwards earlier that night for the first time. That was a flat lie - Cheney met Edwards at a prayer breakfast in February 2001, and addressed the Senator in his remarks that day.
That was a harmless lie, but the Vice President is guilty of misleading and deceiving this country repeatedly over the past four years. Despite a complete lack of evidence, and contrary claims by President Bush, Colin Powell, Donald Rumsfeld and the CIA, Cheney insists that there is a connection between Iraq and the Sept. 11 attacks. There is not. Cheney insists that the situation in Iraq is improving, when his own generals and numerous independent reports claim otherwise. Cheney claims that the economy is getting better, despite millions of job losses since his administration took office.
The Vice President is dangerously out-of-touch with reality. John Kerry and John Edwards know that we face serious problems in this country, and they have a solid plan to address those problems. George Bush and Dick Cheney don't even know where to begin.
